JM Architects recognised the architectural and cultural significance of Pilmuir Works illustrious Victorian industrial past. Their starting point was to therefore understand and preserve the important Grade A listed buildings and original features of the site and to re-imagine how this could be transformed into an attractive modern residential development, seamlessly blending the new with the old.
The new built forms were created to tie in with the existing buildings and are organised around the creation of a new striking central landscaped courtyard. The new brick, zinc, aluminium and corten materials are robust and elegant, complementing the Victorian industrial heritage of the site.
